Investment Philosophy

Philosophy Overview

At Kisher Capital, our investment philosophy is grounded in discipline, evidence, and alignment with client objectives.

We believe successful investing is not driven by short-term forecasts, but by a structured process that manages risk, captures market returns, and remains consistent through changing environments.

Our role is to serve as a fiduciary by providing objective advice, constructing resilient portfolios, and helping clients stay committed to a long-term plan.

Josiah DeFord, CFA, Chief Investment Officer

Core Principles

Long-Term Participation

We believe long-term participation in capital markets is the most effective way to build wealth. Compounding, when uninterrupted, is a primary driver of investment success.

Risk Management

Returns are a function of risk. Our approach focuses on taking intentional, compensated risk while avoiding unnecessary exposure that can lead to permanent capital loss. Managing downside risk is central to preserving long-term outcomes.

Systematic & Evidence-Based

Our investment framework is systematic and evidence-based, grounded in academic research rather than short-term predictions. By relying on disciplined processes, we seek to reduce behavioral bias and improve consistency.

Cost & Tax Efficiency

We also emphasize cost efficiency. By utilizing low-cost, tax-efficient investment vehicles, more of the portfolio’s return remains invested and compounds over time.

Portfolio Construction

Multi-Asset Framework

Portfolios are built across equities, fixed income, and alternative investments. Each asset class serves a distinct role in driving growth, providing stability, and enhancing diversification.

Factor-Based Equity Allocation

Equity exposure is implemented through a factor-based approach, targeting persistent drivers of return such as value, quality, momentum, size, and low volatility. This improves diversification and risk-adjusted performance.

Dynamic Fixed Income Management

Fixed income allocations are actively managed to adjust for changes in interest rates and credit conditions, balancing income generation with capital preservation.

Alternative Strategies

Alternative investments are used to improve portfolio resilience through diversification and reduced correlation to traditional markets, particularly during periods of stress.

Risk Management

Risk management is integrated throughout the portfolio construction process. Diversification across asset classes and strategies reduces concentration risk, while disciplined rebalancing ensures portfolios remain aligned with their intended allocations over time.

Position sizing is used to control the impact of individual investments, preventing any single exposure from disproportionately affecting outcomes. Equally important is behavioral discipline. We help clients remain focused on long-term objectives and avoid reactive decision-making during market volatility.

Governance & Alignment

Kisher Capital operates as a fee-only investment advisor, ensuring full alignment with client interests and eliminating product-based conflicts.

Portfolios are managed through a consistent and transparent process that includes ongoing monitoring, risk evaluation, and performance analysis.

We follow a goals-based framework, where success is measured by a client’s ability to achieve their financial objectives, not by short-term market performance.

Biblically Responsible Investing (BRI)

What is BRI?

Biblically Responsible Investing (BRI) involves the screening of a fund or stock before investing. This screening removes funds and stocks that would violate biblical values through their corporate actions. At the request of Client, KC recommends BRI ETFs that avoid funds and stocks that would violate biblical values.

How does Kisher Capital provide BRI Options?

The funds KC utilizes screen out companies involved in abortion products and activism, sexually explicit content or services, gambling, tobacco, alcohol, and THC products. KC relies upon third-party services to determine if a fund or stock is in violation.

What if a company violates BRI Principles?

Due to lack of corporate transparency and quickly evolving businesses, KC cannot guarantee that BRI portfolios or ETFs are completely and at all times aligned with BRI values.

How Does Biblically Responsible Investing Perform?

Screening may lead to underperformance when excluded sectors or securities outperform. By integrating BRI into a diversified and factor-focused portfolio, we aim to balance conviction with disciplined pursuit of return.
